Fritz Rudolf Uebe

Fritz Rudolf Uebe (born February 12, 1889 in Koethen ; † June 2, 1927 in Münster ) was a German art historian .

Life

Fritz Rudolf Uebe, son of the Köthener Hofkürschner Friedrich Uebe, attended the Ludwigsgymnasium in Koethen and studied art history, history and folklore at the universities of Leipzig , Freiburg and Munich from 1908 to 1912 . After receiving his doctorate on November 17, 1913 in Leipzig with August Schmarsow , he became a volunteer at the Berlin museums in 1913, but shortly afterwards was drafted into military service. He was wounded several times (gas poisoning) and received the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st class. In 1920 he became assistant director at the State Museum of the Province of Westphalia in Münster under Max Geisberg . Here he was u. a. for folkloreResponsible for the collection and started building a collection of posters . Due to his lung defect, he spent 1923/24 in the sanatorium in Davos , and in 1925 he became a curator at the State Museum. In 1927 he died as a result of his gas poisoning.

He dealt scientifically and as a collector with commercial graphics and posters, and the Landesmuseum in Münster acquired part of his collection.
