Fritz Carpenter

Fritz Tischler (born October 22, 1910 in Heidelberg , † June 24, 1967 ) was a German prehistorian .

Fritz Tischler, son of the botanist Georg Tischler , studied at the University of Kiel , where he received his doctorate in 1936. In 1936/37 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . From 1938 he worked as a scientific assistant and head of the prehistoric department of the Lower Rhine Museum in Duisburg , from 1940 as curator, interrupted from 1941 to 1945 when he participated in the Second World War . In 1943 he completed his habilitation at the University of Kiel. From 1950 until his death he was director of the Niederrheinisches Museum and, especially in the post-war period, did a great job researching the prehistory of the largely destroyed city of Duisburg. From 1948 he was a private lecturer, from 1955 honorary professor at the University of Cologne .

Tischler died just under 4 months after a heart attack at the age of 56.
