Georg Friedrich Leopold Tischler (born June 22, 1878 in Losgehnen , Bartenstein district , East Prussia , † January 6, 1955 in Kiel ) was a German botanist and karyologist . His botanical author abbreviation is " carpenter ".

Live and act

Georg Tischler was a son of the landowner Oskar Tischler, brother of the ornithologist Friedrich Tischler (1881–1945) and a nephew of the prehistorian Otto Tischler (1843–1891).

He studied in Königsberg, Munich and Bonn, where he received his doctorate in 1899. During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Munich . In 1900 he became a scientific assistant at the chair for botany at the University of Heidelberg , where he taught as an associate professor from 1908. In 1912 he became a professor in Braunschweig and in 1917 in Hohenheim. From 1922 to 1949 he taught as a professor at the University of Kiel , where he was director of the Botanical Institute and the Botanical Garden there.

His sons were the prehistorian Fritz Tischler (1910–1967) and the zoologist Wolfgang Tischler (1912–2007).

Honors

After Joiners the plant genus is Tischleria Schwantes from the family of aizoaceae named (Aizoaceae).
