Friedrich Tischler (born June 2, 1881 in Losgehnen ; † January 29, 1945 ibid) was a German ornithologist, son of the landlord of Losgehnen ( Bartenstein district , Polish Lusiny) Oscar Tischler (1843-1891) and brother of the botanist Georg Tischler ( 1878-1955).

Friedrich Tischler was married to Rose Kowalski (1884–1945).

Friedrich Tischler studied law in Königsberg , Leipzig and Munich . After graduating, he was appointed magistrate in Heilsberg . Since 1908 he was a member of the German Ornithological Society . He spent his vacation in the zoological institute of the Königsberg Albertina or in the ornithological station on the Curonian Spit . He wrote two monumental works on the birds of East Prussia: "The birds of the province of East Prussia" (1914) and the two-volume work "The birds of East Prussia and its neighboring areas" (1941). He also wrote many treatises. The third work, ready for printing, was destroyed during the bombardment of Königsberg.

For his services, he was appointed "External Scientific Member" by the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Advancement of Science , and the Albertus University in Königsberg awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Before the Soviet troops marched in in the winter of 1945, the Tischler couple committed suicide on January 29th.

Dedication names

Otto Kleinschmidt called 1917 Parus borealis tischleri , now a synonym for the chickadees subtype ( poecile montanus borealis ), 1935 Corvus Coloeus tischleri , now a synonym for the jackdaws subtype ( Coloeus monedula soemmerringii ). In Accipiter tischleri the Kleinschmidt in 1938 described, it is a synonym for the goshawk ( Accipiter gentilis ).
