The Biographical Lexicon for Schleswig-Holstein and Lübeck (SHBL) is a completed scientific regional biography in 13 volumes, which was published by Wachholtz Verlag in Neumünster from 1970 to 2011 . Volumes 1 to 5 appeared under the title Schleswig-Holstein Biographical Lexicon .

The regional biography, which is published by the Schleswig-Holstein State Library with the participation of the Society for Schleswig-Holstein History and the Association for Lübeck History and Archeology , includes 1801 people and families from Schleswig-Holstein with the former parts of Altona and North Schleswig as well as Lübeck , the came to Schleswig-Holstein only in 1937.

It was then to be continued exclusively as an online project by the responsible Schleswig-Holstein State Library. Overlaps exist in particular for important people in Altona and Wandsbek with the Hamburg biography , the Biographical Manual for the History of the State of Oldenburg for the Eutin region, naturally also with the Danish Dansk biografisk leksikon and other Danish biographical collections as well as the Biographical Lexicon for Mecklenburg .

Many of the biographies from Lübeck contained in the SHBL also appeared separately in two volumes as Lübeck CVs (1993, reprint 2009) and New Lübeck CVs (2009). Biographies of personalities from Kiel have been summarized in the volume " Kiel life courses from six centuries " (edited by Hans-F. Rothert, Neumünster 2006).
