Fritz Volkemer

Fritz Volkemer (born January 13, 1907 in Pirmasens ; † December 31, 1974 there ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Volkemer worked as a shoe factory worker from 1920 to 1933, attended vocational training school from 1920 to 1923 and finally became a master in the shoe industry. After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was taken into “ protective custody ”. He then emigrated to France , where he was interned in 1939. After the occupation of southern France by German troops, he went underground. Volkemer returned to Germany after the Second World War and in 1945 became the Palatinate district manager of the Leather Union (GL) in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Volkemer was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946/47 and was then elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate Landtag , of which he was a member until 1963. From 1959 to 1963 he was chairman of the committee for social policy and issues relating to displaced persons.
