Fritz Weber (born January 24, 1909 in Cologne ; † June 1984 ) was a German composer and songwriter , pop singer , musician and conductor . He was nicknamed "The Singing Violinist". His most successful compositions are Ich bin ene kölsche Jung , 1900 Johr is our Kölle am Rhing and oh, if only I were a pretty prince at the carnival once .

biography

Fritz Weber, who was born in Cologne-Kalk in 1909 , played several instruments as a child and later studied violin and trumpet at the Rheinische Musik-Akademie . At the age of 19 Weber put together his first band, with which he performed on weekends in Cologne. In 1930 he gave a first jazz concert with the formation, which now comprised twelve musicians. In the following year the band became a 15-man orchestra that gave concerts all over Germany. In addition to playing the violin, Weber also sang Schlager , which earned him the nickname The Singing Violinist .

In 1934 Weber made a guest appearance with his orchestra in Berlin. In 1936 he was the favorite in an orchestral competition advertised by the German Broadcasting Corporation , in which over 400 dance bands took part. Weber was not a member of the NSDAP and took 3rd place behind two NSDAP members. In the same year Weber and his orchestra received a record deal with Deutsche Grammophon . The songs, recorded between 1936 and 1939, were re-released on Bear Family Records in 2005 .

In the Second World War, Weber became a soldier and got 1945 in American captivity, where he founded a there swing band appeared in American officers' mess. After his release from captivity Weber assembled a band again in Cologne and performed again. In 1957 he was the first to play with his orchestra at the newly opened Tanzbrunnen in Cologne .
