Raddi |
Frullania (German water sack moss ) is a very species-rich genus of leafy liverworts . The Italian moss researcher Giuseppe Raddi named the genus in honor of Leonardo Frullani , a Tuscan statesman.
features
The reddish, brownish or purple, occasionally dark green plants grow in flat, creeping or ascending lawns. The stems with overshot foliage are irregular to feathery branched. The leaves are divided into two unequal leaf lobes down to the bottom. The larger upper lobe is oval to almost round, with entire margins or with a tooth. The smaller lower lobe is usually transformed into a water sac (name). Between the two leaf lobes there is often another little-cell lobe called the stylus. Lower leaves are present, they are usually bilobed.
The gender distribution is predominantly diocese . The male bracts, each with several antheridia in the leaf axils, are divided to the middle. Female bracts are also divided up to half or more and are larger than the stem leaves. The perianth is pear-shaped, egg-shaped or rectangular and suddenly constricts into a small tube at the tip. Brood bodies are formed on the leaf margins or on the outside of the perianth.
Systematics
Frullania is the only genus of their family Frullaniaceae . According to Frey, Fischer & Stech, the family is part of the Jubulales order .
According to a recent publication, the Frullaniaceae family is placed in the order Porellales .
