The District League Gera 1977/78 was the 26th season of the District League Gera of the German Football Association .

Master and advanced into the DDR-Liga was the BSG Chemie Schwarza .

Last year's champion BSG Wismut Gera II, whose team was incorporated into the junior league as a junior team due to the promotion of the first team to the GDR upper league , competed with a completely new team. This was totally overwhelmed, had reached 3:27 points in the half series and was finally withdrawn after 18 games with 5:31 points.

The FC Carl Zeiss Jena II was dissolved after the season.

The previous year's climber BSG Progress Pößneck and the BSG unit Rudolstadt were relegated to the subordinate district classes . Both could not use the additional chance of relegation against the district class second.

For the following season, the three season winners of the district class, BSG Traktor Frießnitz, BSG Aufbau Jena and BSG Clothing Tanna rose. In the regional league relegation round, BSG Motor Hermsdorf II and last year 's relegated BSG Stahl Maxhütte were able to secure the last two places in the Gera regional league in 1978/79 .
