Football league system in Austria (women)

The Football Women's league system in Austria is a league system for division of Austrian football - leagues . The top division in Austrian women's football is therefore the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga , in which the Austrian football champion is determined.

Current league system

The top division in Austria is the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga , colloquially mostly known as the Women's Bundesliga . Among them there is a two-pronged 2nd division (middle / west, south / east). Clubs from Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg play in the 2nd division Middle / West, while clubs from Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Styria and Vienna play in the 2nd division East / South.

Organization and licensing

The respective leagues are organized by the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) or its regional associations. In principle, the scope of the national associations comprising the respective State , but there are exceptions due to geographical conditions: for example, include the associations of East Tyrol , instead of the Tyrolean Football Federation (TFV) the Carinthian Football Association (PRR) and some clubs from the Upper Austrian border regions of Salzburg and Lower Austria are not to the Upper Austrian Football Association (OÖFV), but to the Salzburg Football Association (SFV) or the Lower Austrian Football Association (NÖFV). Clubs from Burgenland play either in the Lower Austrian or Vienna leagues.

Game operation

ÖFB Women's Bundesliga

The Bundesliga is the highest soccer class in the Austrian women's soccer system, in which 10 teams play for the Austrian national championship. All teams play against each other in a round-trip round of 9 matches, each team has nine home and nine away games throughout the season. At the end of the season, the team placed last is relegated and is replaced by a club from either the 2nd division Middle / West or 2nd division East / South, which is determined with a relegation match.

2nd league

The 2nd league represents the highest Austrian amateur class. The game is played with up to 12 teams. The champions of the 2nd division will join the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga.

National league

Below the 2nd division, the national leagues form the third division. The names of the regional leagues vary depending on the association: Wiener Frauen Landesliga (Vienna), Frauen Landesliga NÖ (Lower Austria), Frauen Landesliga Steiermark (Styria), OÖ Frauenliga, (Upper Austria), Frauen Kärntner Liga (Carinthia), Salzburg Women's League (Salzburg), Women's Tyrolean League (Tyrol), Vorarlberg Women's League (Vorarlberg)

The champions of the national league carry out a playoff for the promotion place. The number of relegated members (1 to 2) depends on the number of relegated members from or promoted to the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga.

The structure of the regional associations differs considerably:

  • Burgenland: none
  • Carinthia: none
  • Lower Austria: The fourth division is called the women's regional league (in 4 seasons), followed by the women's group (in 2 seasons).
  • Upper Austria: The fourth division is called Landesliga Frauen OÖ, followed by the women's class (all in 1 season).
  • Salzburg: none
  • Styria: The fourth division is called women's league (in 2 seasons).
  • Tyrol: The fourth division is called Frauen Landesliga (in 2 seasons).
  • Vorarlberg: none
  • Vienna: The fourth division is called Women 1. Class (in 1 season).
