Foot care products

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Foot care products are used for foot care . A distinction is made between medical preparations that help against foot problems, such as those against calluses and corns, and cosmetic products such as baths, lotions, creams, balms and many more, which are limited to the care of the skin and nails.

Cosmetic products often contain ingredients to bind sweat, inhibit germs and deodorize , as there are many sweat glands on the feet , which means that fungi and bacteria can multiply quickly and produce foot odor .

Remedy for calluses and corns

Remedies for calluses and corns are collodion solutions. These are viscous suspensions of collodion wool in a mixture of about one part alcohol and two parts ether . It also contains plasticizers and substances with a keratolytic effect. There are also pastes which contain alkaline earth glycolates.

Foot powder

Foot powder is one of the powder preparations. It is the cheapest and most widely used form of cosmetic foot care products. It mostly consists of talc and silica . This reduces the moisture in the shoe, which slows down the growth of bacteria. In addition, aluminum salts may also be present, which also have an antiperspirant effect. Furthermore, foot powder has a skin-smoothing, cooling and antiseptic effect, which is due to additives such as alum , camphor and menthol . Foot powders can also be used to reduce germs in shoes.

Foot bath salts

Foot bath salts are structured like bath salts. However, there are also herbal extracts included. A distinction can be made between two versions:

  • to soften the cornea
  • for perspiration inhibition

Corneal softening

These salts consist of alkaline reacting salts ( sodium hydrogen carbonate ). They can also contain sodium perborate or sodium percarbonate for deodorization .

Perspiration inhibition

These salts consist of astringent substances such as aluminum sulfate .

Foot bath essences

Foot bath essences are surfactant solutions, more precisely clear, slightly colored solutions to which herbal extracts have been added. They also contain anti-fungal and deodorant additives.

Foot bubble baths

Foot foam baths consist of conventional foam bath preparations and additional active ingredients against fungi and bacteria (undecylenic acid diethanolamide).

Foot sprays

Foot sprays are aerosol pressurized gas packs. It contains isopropanolic solutions ( propellant gas , alcohol and perfume oil), which have a germ-inhibiting, deodorant, antiperspirant and antifungal effect.

Foot creams

Foot balm

In contrast to foot creams, foot balms are water-free. They can contain myrrh resin, marigold oil and other essential oils , which have a refreshing and nourishing effect.

Foot lotion

Foot lotions are thin oil-in-water emulsions. This makes them easy to apply without leaving any residue. Mainly they treat fungal infections and unpleasant smells, but can also be soothing to the skin at the same time.
