The burrow in Munich

The so-called Fuchsbau in the Schwabing-Freimann district of the Bavarian capital Munich is a residential and commercial building that was built in 1972/73. The skyscraper north of the Erlöserkirche at Ungererstraße 19, Fuchsstraße and Germaniastraße is a protected monument . It is named after Fuchsstrasse.

The three-armed, pyramidal staggered terrace building with nine storeys in exposed concrete and distinctive balconies made of precast concrete , with a shopping area projected to the north on a polygonal floor plan, apartments, communal roof terrace with swimming pool and outdoor areas was built according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Steinel for the developer Deutsche Wohnbau (DEBA).

The silhouette jumps back floor by floor at the ends. From two arms of the building, two elements have been selected on the ground floor that are used commercially. At the intersection of the three arms, the building is accessed centrally with an elevator and staircase. The apartments have 15 different floor plans, the smallest apartments have 24 and the largest 125 square meters. Almost all apartments have open areas with plant troughs. There are spacious terrace apartments at the front. From 1972 to 2005, the art house cinema Lupe 2 with 154 seats was located on the ground floor .

The building in the style of brutalism corresponds to the compact type of housing that developed in major German cities in the 1970s .
