Fuchsia gehrigeri is a species ofthe evening primrose family (Onagraceae).
Appearance
Fuchsia gehrigeri grows as an upright shrub and reaches a height of up to 2 meters. The leaves , arranged in three whorls on the branch, are 3.5 to 12 centimeters long and 1.5 to five centimeters wide. The dull green leaf blade is velvety hairy. The leaf margins are finely serrated.
The red tube of the flower is funnel-shaped and 50 millimeters long. The red sepals are often hairy and reach a length of up to 21 millimeters. The crown is scarlet.
The pear-shaped fruits are 15 millimeters tall and dark purple in color.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
origin
Fuchsia gehrigeri comes from the border area between Venezuela and Colombia . It grows there in forest areas at altitudes between 2200 and 3100 meters.
