biography
Fujiwara grew up in a poor family in Kumamoto Prefecture. When she was in her early twenties, she moved to Tokyo, where she joined the theater company of her future mentor, the writer Jūrō Kara . In the 1980s she worked closely with director Shin'ya Tsukamoto ; she played the role of the nameless friend in his cyberpunk film Tetsuo: The Iron Man . The experience she gained as Tsukamoto's “right hand man” motivated her to produce two low-budget films: Organ (1996) and Ido (2005). Her debut Organ is considered a cult film.
