Funamanu is a small reef island in the reef rim of the Funafuti Atoll , Tuvalu .

The island lies at a point in the atoll where the reef rim is interrupted. While the reef edge to the south through the Puapua Deep Pass at the Funamanu Shoals offers boat access to the lagoon , the island of Funagogo follows almost immediately to the northeast .

According to a 2010 study by Paul Kench of the University of Auckland in New Zealand and Arthur Webb of the South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission in Fiji , the island was one of seven in the atoll that was even damaged by the deposition of coral breakage and sand in the course of climate change Has gained land area. The island has grown by an average of 3% since 1950. Funamanu gained 0.44 hectares, almost 30% of its original size.
