Furius Baco is a steel roller coaster in the PortAventura theme park (in Salou in the province of Tarragona ), which opened on June 5, 2007. The design of the roller coaster from the Wing Rider Coaster model comes from the manufacturer Intamin , the calculation from the engineering office Stengel GmbH.
It is the first and so far only roller coaster of this model with the seats on the left and right of the rail. The costs for the railway amount to around 15 million euros.
When it comes to speed, Furius Baco is replacing the Launched Coaster Stealth , which is located in Thorpe Park in England . It was thus the fastest roller coaster in Europe until Red Force opened in 2017.
Surname
The theming is correspondingly Baco the Spanish word for Bacchus , the Roman god of wine. Furius is similar to the adjectives furiosus ( Latin ), furioso ( Spanish ), furiós ( Catalan ) and furious ( English ), each of which means furious, angry .
journey
The train is accelerated from 0 to 135 km / h in around 3.5 seconds by hydraulic launch. The 870 m long route runs close to the ground without large hills, but includes an inline twist as an inversion , which is the fastest inversion in the world (approx. 100 km / h).
Trains
Furius Baco owns three trains with six cars each. Four people (one row) can be seated in each car. Shoulder straps are used as a restraint system.
The rows of the train are on either side of the rail, so two people out of four possible people per row sit on one side of the rail with the other two people sitting on the other side of the rail. This arrangement is similar to that of a 4th dimension coaster, but the seats do not rotate.
