location

The settlement borders directly on the northern outskirts of Schachtebich on Landesstraße 2005 in the direction of Freienhagen . Gänseteich is located on the red sandstone plateau of the middle Eichsfeld at an altitude of about 295 m. History of the settlement

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1548 as a recreational pond . Several historical maps from the end of the 16th century refer to territorial disputes over the place Gänseteich and the associated Lentershagen between the Electorate of Mainz and the Duke of Braunschweig . In a contract in 1815, the Kingdom of Hanover ceded the places Gänseteich with Lentershagen and Rüdigershagen to Prussia .

In 1934 the village was incorporated into Schachtebich together with Lentershagen.
