His tomb is inside the Eger Castle , where the historical events of the Turkish siege took place, which make up the main part of the plot of the Stars of Eger . During his time in this city he was called the "Hermit of Eger".

Gárdonyi has received many awards. The Géza Gárdonyi Memorial Museum is now located in his former home in Eger. Especially in Eger streets, schools and theater buildings were named after him, but also in other parts of the country. There are memorial plaques on the houses and schools in which he worked. In Budapest there is a memorial to the writer on Bartók Béla utca.

power

Gárdonyi is best known as a narrator, but also wrote poems and plays. At first he wrote crude satirical folk books. His actual literary career began with stories from Hungarian village life that go back to memories of his youth and portray the unspoiled world of the village in a transfigurative and naive way. His popularity is based above all on his historical novels in which he describes topics of Hungarian history in an exciting and patriotistic way. His main work, Sterne von Eger , is required reading in Hungarian schools.
