The noble family von Gößnitz , also Jößnitz, Gössnitz or Jhessnicz , were a primeval Vogtland noble family from Jößnitz , north of Plauen or from the place Gößnitz in Altenburger Land , where the place Goßenicz was first mentioned in 1253.

First mentioned by name with Tuto von Gößnitz in 1253 and then with Dietrich von Gößnitz in 1267 and Theodosius de Jesczenicz in 1282. The Vogtland family line begins with Heinrich von Jeßnitz , who was enfeoffed with goods in the Adorf court in 1362 . 1483 are mentioned Erenberg von Jhessnicz and his sons Heinrich and Paulsen. In the Guttenberg feud of 1380 family members are on the side of the bailiffs and the margrave of Meißen. Albrecht von Gessnitczs is mentioned in the official inheritance book of 1542 . The family, who wrote about Gößnitz later , had estates in Adorf (in the 18th century Georg Wolff v. G. on Gugelspurgk, Jugelsburg, Ingelsberg, a district of Adorf), in the Ore Mountains and in Zwickau. The von Gößnitz who are still living today are not aristocratic and come from a female line of those of Gößnitz.
