Senckenberg Museum for Natural History Görlitz
The Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz , built in 1860, is the largest museum in East Saxony. It is a natural history museum with a focus on zoology, botany and geology.
Silesian Museum in Görlitz
The Silesian Museum in Görlitz gives an insight into 1000 years of Silesian cultural history . A part is dedicated to landscapes such as the Giant Mountains and cities such as B. Wroclaw . Another part shows craftsmanship, history as well as the people and their living and working conditions.
Museum of Photography
The Görlitz Museum of Photography offers an insight into the history and art of photography. In addition to prints of various photographs, a look at the technology is also taken. The history of the development and manufacture of photographic products in Görlitz is also mentioned here. After the founding of the Society for the Museum of Photography Görlitz eV in 2000, work began on researching the photographic industrial history. The Museum of Photography is located on the property of the former camera manufacturer Ernst Herbst & Firl . The Ernst Herbst & Firl company manufactured studio cameras and travel cameras here between 1893 and 1919.
Toy museum
The Görlitz Toy Museum in Görlitz Old Town enables visitors to “travel back in time” to their childhood and beyond. Toys from the last centuries are on display here. The main focus is on wooden toys from the Ore Mountains.
Rübezahl Museum
The stories about the Silesian ruler of the Jizera and Giant Mountains Rübezahl, known far beyond the national borders, have been told for more than 400 years. His stories are said to have been spread in 40 countries as early as the 17th century. In the Rübezahl-Museum Görlitz you can see a collection of various exhibits on this topic.
Exhibition in Hagenwerder station
After the closure of the former brown coal power station and its demolition, documents and historical evidence were exhibited in the train station in Hagenwerder . Under the name “History of lignite mining in the Berzdorf opencast mine from 1835 to 2000”, visitors can find out more about the former lignite mining site. Not far from the train station, on the road towards Tauchritz standing Schaufelradbagger no. 1452 . It serves as a "technical monument" and can be visited.
