Gösta Backlund was a Swedish football player . The defensive player played two international matches for the Swedish national team in 1914 .

Career

Backlund played for Djurgårdens IF in the early 1910s . In the national championship, which was held before the introduction of the Allsvenskan as a national league in cup form, he moved with the club in 1912 in the final of the Svenska Mästerskapet . After the first two games for the title in October and November respectively ended in a draw, a third playoff was then scheduled. On the Råsunda IP he belonged to Götrik Frykman , Ragnar Wicksell , Bertil Nordenskjöld and Sten Söderberg to the team that defeated the Gothenburg club Örgryte IS - record champions at the time - with a 3-1 victory and thus for the first time in the club's history the Von -Rosens Cup won. In the following championship title in 1915, he was no longer part of the championship eleven.

In May 1914, the selection committee of the Svenska Fotbollförbundet considered Backlund as a selection player in the Swedish national team . In the 4-3 win over Finland he made his debut for his colors, Rune Bergström , Valfrid Gunnarsson and two-time goalscorer Iwar Swensson led the Swedes to victory over the selection of the neighboring country. In July he played another game against Russia , which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Nothing is known about the further life of Backlund - especially away from the football field.
