Götz von Rohr

Götz von Rohr (born July 7, 1944 in Wiesbaden ) is a German geographer and works at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

Scientific career

Götz von Rohr completed his studies in Hamburg with Gerhard Sandner in 1968 as a qualified geographer. The topic of his diploma thesis was "Industrial Geography of Wandsbek" . In 1970 he did his doctorate, also in Hamburg with Sandner, and the title of his dissertation was “Industrial relocations in the Hamburg area” . The habilitation took place in 1991 in the geography department of the University of Bremen .

Professional background

From 1968 v. Rohr Research Associate at the Geographical Institute of the University of Hamburg . From 1969 to 1972 he was an employee of the Hamburg State Planning Office. Then he was project manager at GEWOS GmbH for eight years and in 1980 moved to the planning staff of the Hamburg Senate Chancellery , where he took over the management of the “Construction, Environment, Economy and Transport” department. In 1992 he became director at the Geographical Institute at Kiel University. He has been retired since 2009, but continues to work on research projects. As chairman of the German Association for Applied Geography (DVAG, see below) and as director of the Geographical Institute of the University of Kiel, his main concern was to systematically and nationwide orientate the training of qualified geographers to the requirements of professional practice (e.g. 1982 to 1984 with the "Study Reform Commission Geography" of the Conference of Ministers of Education).

Research and interests

In research and development, v. Rohr focuses on monitoring and forecasting the housing market , suburbanization , inter-municipal cooperation , avoiding traffic and developing cruises.

Politically, he has been involved in the SPD since 1972 and held several political offices. From 1991 to 1994 he was mayor of Buchholz in the Nordheide .
