Günter Benecke

Günter Benecke (born November 26, 1923 in Magdeburg ) is a German architect and was responsible for the urban design of the city of Suhl in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Life

After graduating from high school, Benecke, the son of a photographer , did a one-year internship as a bricklayer and then studied at the Magdeburg State Engineering School until 1949. In 1950 he became an employee in the architecture office "Wernecke" and in 1951 in the VEB industrial design. After working for one year in the structural and industrial design office, in 1954 he became deputy chief architect at VEB Hochbauprojektierung Magdeburg and deputy director of the Magdeburg housing combination, which he remained until 1962.

From 1963 to 1966 Benecke studied at the University of Architecture and Building Art in Weimar and became a qualified architect . From 1969 to 1986 he was a research assistant in the urban planning office in Suhl. In this function he took over the urban planning for the Steinweg residential development in 1969, from 1976 to 1983 for the renovation of the administration building for the Suhl District Council, from 1975 to 1979 for the new construction of the Suhl-Nord and Ilmenauer Strasse II districts and from 1976 to 1982 for the residential high-rise buildings in what was then Wilhelm-Pieck-Strasse. In 1986 Benecke retired.
