Life and family environment

Alexander Petrovich Obolensky belonged to the first line of his princely house, which was descended from Rjurik , the Warsaw founder of the Russian Empire. He was born on December 31, 1780. His father was the Imperial Russian Councilor Prince Peter Alexandrowitsch Obolensky (1742-1822), his mother was Princess Ekaterina Andrejewna Vjasemskaja (1731-1811). He died on April 18, 1855. Military and political career

Obolensky was initially an officer. He joined the distinguished Russian Bodyguard Dragoons regiment and advanced quickly. In 1807 he was an officer of this regiment. In the campaign against Napoleon in 1813 he was a colonel in the Byelorussian regiment. He distinguished himself in such a way that he was proposed by the Prussian Lieutenant General Friedrich Wilhelm von Bülow (with other Russian officers) for the award of the order Pour le Mérite . The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. followed this suggestion and awarded Obolenski this medal on December 8th, 1813. In the very highest cabinet order of the king to von Bülow it says:, .... I am sending you attached the proof of what medals I denied the Kaiserl. Russian officers who have distinguished themselves in their corps ... the plm for AP Prince Obolensky ... '.

After the coalition wars , Alexander Obolenski began a civilian career. He became Governor of Kaluga in 1825 , Senator in 1831, and Real Privy Councilor in 1849. As early as 1813 he had received the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle for his services and was also made a Knight of the Russian Order of St. George .
