Karl-Werner Hansmann (* 21st May 1943 in Kassel ) is a German national and business economist and emeritus professor of business administration (BWL) at the University of Hamburg .

Life

Karl-Werner Hansmann completed a degree in economics (VWL) at the Philipps University of Marburg and studied business administration at the University of Hamburg . 1972 doctorate he became Dr. rer. pole. at the Herbert Jacob Institute at the University of Hamburg. As the topic of his dissertation , he chose decision-making models for the location planning of industrial companies . In 1977 he completed his habilitation and then became a scientific adviser and professor at the University of Hamburg. The subject of his habilitation thesis was Dynamic Stock Investment Planning . In 1980, Hansmann was appointed full professor for business administration, especially industrial management , at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg.

There he founded the Institute for Industrial Research in close cooperation with the private sector. In 1985 Hansmann became Vice President of the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg for two terms . From 1983 to 1989 he was often visiting professor in the USA and France at the University of Bordeaux .

Several calls to business management chairs, etc. a. to the University of Mannheim , Hansmann turned down before he was appointed professor at the University of Hamburg and successor to Herbert Jacob as director of the Institute for Industrial Management and Organization . His textbook Industrial Management , which has so far been published in its eighth edition, is one of the standard works in business administration. As early as 1998, Hansmann published the book Umweltorientierte Betriebswirtschaftslehre as editor . This is an indication that he was one of the first to recognize the importance of the ecological aspects of doing business. In addition to research and teaching , Karl-Werner Hansmann works as a management consultant for industrial and service companies.

From 2003 to 2007, Hansmann was Vice President of the University of Hamburg, responsible for research and international affairs and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the university. In October 2007 he was temporarily President of the University of Hamburg. After his tenure as Vice President, Hansmann continued his work as full professor and director of his institute. He is currently doing research and consulting in the areas of finance , economic analysis of the Eurosystem and the European sovereign debt crisis .

Research priorities

His current research interests are the international financial crisis including banking regulation, the euro crisis , the income tax reform in Germany as well as quantitative analysis and forecasting methods for the economy and the capital market .
