Günter Niewand (born August 17, 1936 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1955 he played 16 games for Turbine Erfurt in the GDR league , the top division in GDR football . With Turbine Erfurt he was GDR champion, he is a seven-time junior national player.

Athletic career

As a junior player for Turbine Erfurt, Niewand played seven international matches with the GDR junior national team in 1954 and 1955. He was used as a center forward and scored seven goals.

His first appearance in the GDR league had Niewand on March 27, 1955 in the encounter on the 23rd day of the game Turbine Erfurt - Dresden unit (1-0). One day later he shot his first league goal. Then he was called up again on the 25th and penultimate league match day. With his three appearances, Niewand had only a small share in winning the second GDR championship from Turbine Erfurt.
