Günter Paul (born February 14, 1941 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German lawyer, lawyer in Frankfurt am Main and former President of the Hessian State Court , the constitutional court of the state.

Life

Günter Paul grew up in Frankfurt. He studied law at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and the University of Hamburg . He received his doctorate in 1973 in Frankfurt on information liability in recent case law . After completing his studies, he worked as a lawyer in Frankfurt. Until 2011 he was also a notary .

Günter Paul has been politically active in the CDU Hessen since 2011 . At the beginning of the 1980s he was active with the "Citizens' Action Free School Choice" against a mandatory support level in grades 5 and 6. After the change of government in 1987, Walter Wallmann offered him a ministerial position. However, Günter Paul refused.

Since 1995 he has been a non-judicial member of the State Court of Hesse. Since 2003 he has been its president, with one interruption. When he was last re-elected in October 2014, the SPD and FDP abstained from tradition, while the left voted against him. In December 2016, he stepped down as President of the Hessian State Court. His successor was Roman Poseck .

Günter Paul is privately active as a functionary in equestrian sport. As President of the Union Club from 1995 to 1998, he ran the Hoppegarten horse racing track near Berlin . He then took over as President of the Frankfurt Racing Club, running the Frankfurt horse racing track . He could not avert the bankruptcy of the economically troubled club in 2008. In addition, he is chairman of the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation , the operator of the Röttgen stud in Cologne- Heumar .

Günter Paul is a member of the Corps Saxonia Leipzig and is managing director of the Convent of German Academic Associations (CDA).

In 1988 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon, in 1999 the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and in March 2017 the Hessian Order of Merit .
