Günter Rosenthal

Günter Rosenthal (born December 13, 1937 ) is a former German soccer player who played from 1959 to 1967 for the BSG unit Greifswald and the BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in the GDR league .

Athletic career

At the age of 21, Günter Rosenthal began his career as a striker in the GDR league in 1959 with the Greifswalder Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) unit, which had previously been promoted from the 2nd GDR league . In his first second division season in 1959 (calendar year season) Rosenthal had a regular place in the team with 22 appearances in 26 league games and maintained this position in the following two seasons. After he had only participated in 13 league games in 1962/63, he left the BSG unit after 86 league games.

At the beginning of the 1963/64 season, Günter Rosenthal moved to league rivals Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt. The GDR league was now played with 30 games, of which Rosenthal was initially only able to complete 18 games. Although now used as a midfielder, he scored his first GDR league goal this season. 1964/65 he had his most successful season when he played all 30 league games and completed his most scoring season with three goals. From the 1965/66 season on, Rosenthal was mainly used in the defense and had no adjustment difficulties there either. He missed only two of the 30 league games and scored another goal. 1966/67 Günter Rosenthal played his last season in GDR league football. Of the 30 point games he completed 19 matches and then ended his career as a competitive athlete after 181 GDR league games and five goals.

As a coach, he remained in football, so he coached the GDR junior national team between 1980 and 1983 , with which he scored 14 wins in 45 international matches. His last coaching station was from 1995 to 1998 the Köpenicker SC in the Oberliga Nordost .
