Günter Seeger

Günter Seeger (born March 23, 1949 in Loffenau ) is a German chef who has been working in the USA since 1984.

Career

After his cooking apprenticeship, Seeger went south to Switzerland, where he cooked in upscale hotels and restaurants. During this time he completed an additional course in hotel management at the University of Lucerne .

In 1977 Seeger opened his own restaurant in Pforzheim , where he was awarded a Michelin star in 1979 . A little later it was listed among the top 20 restaurants in Germany.

In 1984 he became Executive Chef at the Regent Hotel in Washington, and from 1985 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Atlanta , where he developed the Dining Room restaurant into the top address in the south. In 1997 he opened his own restaurant Seeger's in a converted house on the outskirts of Atlanta. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 brought a deep cut in the business, so that he had to give up the restaurant in 2007.

In May 2016 he opened the Günter Seeger New York restaurant on Hudson Street in New York City , where he was again awarded a Michelin star in 2017.

Private

Seeger is married for the third time and has five girls.
