Günter Siebert (weightlifter)
Günter Siebert (* 1931 ) is a former German weightlifter .
Career
Siebert joined the German People's Police (VP) in 1951 and began lifting weights there. From 1952 he was in the barracked People's Police (KVP), which in 1956 was absorbed into the National People's Army (NVA). He became a member of ASK Vorwärts Leipzig . Together with Georg Miske , he was the first weightlifter from the GDR who lived up to international standards. At two European championships he won medals and also achieved some very good placements in international competitions, where he started at the European championship in 1956 in an all-German team consisting of two lifters from the GDR (Günter Siebert and Georg Miske) and five lifters from the Federal Republic Germany existed. In addition, he achieved a number of (overall) German records in light and medium heavyweight (at that time up to 82.5 kg and 90 kg body weight). In 1959 he ended his career.
