Günter Vetter (born July 4, 1936 in Dornbirn ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and entrepreneur. Vetter was a member of the Vorarlberg state government from 1984 to 1989 as a regional councilor .

Günter Vetter was born on July 4, 1936 as the son of Ludwig and Paula Vetter in the Vorarlberg city ​​of Dornbirn. In his hometown he also attended elementary school and the lower level of the Dornbirn Federal High School . After completing the Lustenau business school in two years , he began an apprenticeship as a stonemason in his parents' stonemason business in 1952 . He completed this apprenticeship in 1955 with the journeyman's examination.

From 1958 to 1960 Vetter also attended the three-semester Federal College for Stone Technology in Salzburg, where he also passed the master craftsman's examination in 1960 . As the now master stonemason, he returned to his father's business, which Vetter took over on January 1st, 1962. On July 19, 1968, he married Inge Stembal, with whom he subsequently had two daughters in 1969 and 1971. From 1975 he was also a court-sworn expert for the stonemasonry. In 1997 Günter Vetter handed over the management of his own stonemason to a longstanding employee and in 2008 his work as a court expert also ended.

In 1991 Vetter was awarded the professional title of Kommerzialrat , and in 1992 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor by the Federal Guild of Stonemasons. From 1968 to 1993 he was state guild master for stonemasons and from 1975 to 1980 deputy to the federal guild master.

Political career

In 1965 Günter Vetter was elected for the first time for the ÖVP Vorarlberg as a substitute member of the Dornbirn city council. In 1972 he was elected a full member of the city council and worked there for the ÖVP in the building, school and road committee until 1980. On November 6, 1984 Günter Vetter was appointed to the state government by the then governor Herbert Keßler as state councilor for trade and road construction, building construction and tourism. He carried out this function after the change at the top of the government through the resignation of Kessler in the government of his successor Martin Purtscher . At the end of the legislative period on September 24, 1989, Vetter left the state government.
