Günther Abel
Günther Abel (born November 22, 1956 in Winterberg ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete . He took part in two Winter Olympic Games , in Innsbruck in 1976 and in Lake Placid in 1980 .
Career
Abel started for the SK Winterberg . He finished 14th in 1976 and 24th in the Winter Olympics in Nordic Combined in 1980. He also took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 . In 1976 he was with the club relay of the Winterberg ski club over 4 × 10 km German champion and in 1976, 1977 and 1978 German runner-up in Nordic combined. He was the eternal runner-up behind Urban Hettich from Schonach in the Black Forest. Today he is the Nordic Combined Base Trainer at the Winterberg / Willingen Olympic Base.
