Günther Bien

Günther Bien (born April 26, 1936 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German philosopher and historian of philosophy, who was best known for his research on Aristotle and ethics .

Bien studied philosophy, classical philology, mathematical logic and sociology at the Universities of Münster, Würzburg and Marburg. In 1964 he became a research assistant at the Philosophical Seminar of the Ruhr University Bochum (chair Hermann Lübbe ), where he received his doctorate in 1968 and habilitated in philosophy in 1969. After replacing the chair for philosophy at the University of Stuttgart , he became a full professor for philosophy there in 1976. In 1988 he became an honorary professor at Ulm University . In 2004 he retired. Since 2010 he has been the prorector of the private Lessing University eV Berlin. He also held teaching positions at the Universities of Münster, Gießen, Zurich, Brasilia and the Free University of Berlin. He was co-editor of ?? Historical Dictionary of Philosophy . Until his retirement he was a member of the advisory board of the Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie and co-editor of the book series ?? Practical philosophy in the ?? Alber-Verlag , Freiburg. He is assigned to the knight school .
