Oschyhiwzi ( Ukrainian Ожигівці ; Russian Ожиговцы Oschigowzy , Polish Ożohowce ) is a village in the west of the Ukrainian Oblast Khmelnyzkyj with about 400 inhabitants (2001).
The village is located at an altitude of 299 m on the left bank of the Sbruch , 67 km northwest of the Khmelnytsky oblast center .
history
The village, first mentioned in writing on March 30, 1430, was an important settlement at the end of the 16th century that had Magdeburg law and thus all city privileges. The settlement also includes the village of Toky , located on the opposite bank of the Sbrutsch, today in Ternopil Oblast , and the Oschyhiwzi Castle , built on an island at the time on the outskirts of Oschyhiwzi, which primarily served to protect against Tatar attacks.
Until August 2015, Oschyhiwzi was the administrative center of the district council of the same name in the west of Volotschysk Raion , which also included the villages of Butivtsi ( Бутівці ), and Sobolivka ( Соболівка ). Since then Oschyhiwzi is administratively a part of the territorial area of the community 12 km south town lying Volochysk that also the administrative center of Raion is.
