Günther Dammann

Günther Dammann , called Robertini (born March 8, 1910 in Berlin ; died September 8, 1942 in the Riga-Kaiserwald concentration camp ), was a German Jewish magician and author .

Life

Günther Dammann, son of the banker and member of the board of directors of the Synagogue Association Grunewald Emil M. Dammann (d. 1937), began to be interested in the art of magic at the age of 14 and performed under the stage name “Robertini”.

After graduating from high school, he studied economics, history and philosophy in Berlin and Munich from 1928 to 1933, before working in his father's bank.

At 21, he joined the club Magic Circle of Germany in and wrote for the organ magic several articles on the history of magic. The then very successful and also Jewish illusionist Chevalier Ernest Thorn became his friend, mentor and teacher.

In the period from 1933 to 1937 Dammann published three works that were fundamental to the art of magic.

On September 5, 1942, Dammann was deported to Riga, where he was murdered three days later.

Stumbling block

On October 4, 2010, on the initiative of the Berlin Magical Circle under the direction of Peter Schuster, Günter Dammann's 1000th stumbling block in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf on Wissemannstr. 17 relocated.
