Günther Hummelt

Günther Hummelt (born July 21, 1931 in Innsbruck ; † July 3, 2010 in Munich ) was an Austrian curling athlete and sports official . He was President of the World Curling Federation (WCF) from 1990 to 2000 .

Life

Günther Hummelt was born in Innsbruck in 1931 and got to know the sport of curling in Kitzbühel . He took as a curler u. a. 1967 in the Scotch Cup , the forerunner of today's World Curling Championships, for the German team. He later worked as a trainer for Austria. In 1988, Hummelt became the first association president of the Austrian Curling Association . The fact that curling became an Olympic sport is not least thanks to Hummelt, during whose tenure as WCF President curling was recognized as an official Olympic winter sport and at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano for the first time as the 7th Olympic winter sport.
