Günther Krause (emcee)

Emil Ernst Günther "Günthi" Krause (born February 9, 1923 in Erfurt ; † January 19, 2012 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German emcee and entertainer .

Life

After graduating from high school, Krause was drafted into the Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner by the French in Africa. After returning home, he decided to study acting in Weimar . This was followed by engagements at the theaters in Bernburg and Staßfurt .

From 1953 Krause belonged to the ensemble of the Thalia Theater in Halle / Saale . During this time he began, initially as a sideline to improve his fee, with announcements in the Halleschen Steintor-Varieté . Over time, this resulted in his own programs, with which he not only appeared on his house stage, the Steintor Varieté, but also in East Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast .

In 1969 Günthi Krause also began working as a director and announcer at the Sarrasani Circus . From 1973 Krause devoted himself exclusively to his work as a conferencier and entertainer, writing his own texts. During this time he was banned from performing four times by GDR cultural officials who censored his texts . In addition to touring the stages of the GDR, Krause could also be seen in various radio and television shows. The Friedrichstadtpalast awarded him the " Golden Palace Pin ". Krause said he was a Christian with a Catholic background.
