Günther Meißner (born July 6, 1932 in Attenkirchen -Kronsdorf) is a professor emeritus for theoretical physics at the University of Saarbrücken .

Günther Meißner received his doctorate from the Technical University of Munich in 1963 and then did research as a postdoctoral fellow a. a. at Cornell University and the Laue-Langevin Institute . He completed his habilitation in 1971 at the Technical University of Munich with a thesis on microscopic theory of lattice dynamics . In 1972 he was appointed to the Saarland University.

The focus of his scientific work was the theoretical solid state physics , u. a. Quantum crystals, structural phase transitions , electron - phonon interactions and two-dimensional Wigner crystals , especially electron crystals on liquid helium that have been precisely investigated experimentally .
