Günther Reiter

Günther Reiter (born August 11, 1949 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1986 to 2010 he was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council .

Günther Reiter is the son of a councilor and an accountant. He attended the secondary school in the Vereinsgasse ( Leopoldstadt ) and dropped out of medicine after six semesters. He then attended a pedagogical academy and from 1972 worked as a secondary school teacher. In 1980 he switched to politics and was District Secretary of the SPÖ Floridsdorf until 1990 . Reiter has been managing director of the Laxenburg Castle operating company since 2003 .

Politically, Reiter worked with the city councilors Christine Schirmer , Michael Häupl and Hannes Swoboda and represented the SPÖ between 1978 and 1986 as a district councilor in the district leadership . In 1986 he moved to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council and was elected fourth chairman of the Vienna City Council in 2001 and was third chairman of the City Council until 2010. In the 18th legislative period, Reiter was a member of the “Urban Development and Transport” committee. At the beginning of 2010, Reiter retired, and Christian Peterka became his successor in the Vienna State Parliament and City Council .

Günther Reiter is married and has a son and a daughter.
