Günther Schweikle

Günther Schweikle (born January 8, 1929 in Reutlingen ; † July 22, 2009 ) was a German scholar of German studies and literature. The focus of his research and teaching was the German-language literature of the Middle Ages , in particular the medieval love poetry ( minnesang ).

Life

After graduating from Kepler High School in Reutlingen, Günther Schweikle studied German, English, Romance studies, philosophy and history at the University of Tübingen from 1949 to 1955 , where he received his doctorate in 1955. From 1955 on he was a research assistant at the German Department of the University of Tübingen and completed his habilitation there in 1966. Two years later he became a professor at the Department of German Studies III at the University of Stuttgart . In 1994 Günther Schweikle retired.
