Günther Voigt

Günther Voigt (* 1927 ; † September 25, 2000 in Wuppertal ) was a German homeland researcher in the local history of Wuppertal, especially the district of Langerfeld .

Live and act

Voigt began studying history and education. After completing his doctorate, he was a teacher and most recently rector of the primary school on Germanenstrasse.

He dealt with the local history of Langerfeld and was considered the best historical expert in this district. For 43 years since 1954 Voigt has published articles and photos in the Langerfelder Heimatgruss of the Langerfeld Citizens' Association. From 1955 to 1967 he was editor of the series " Langerfeld in the course of the centuries ". He was also represented with contributions in other local historical publications.

He also worked in the Bergisches Geschichtsverein , the Bürgererverein Langerfeld e. V. and politically in the district representation Langerfeld-Beyenburg as well as in the working group city history in Wuppertal. He was the managing director of the citizens' association from 1955 to 1963. In the Schwelm local history association , he helped to revive the historical relationship with Schwelm in Westphalia. His initiatives were implemented in the field of monument preservation, so at his suggestion a historical educational trail was laid out in Beyenburg and the Langerfeld memorial plaques were attached.

Voigt's grave is located in the Evangelical Cemetery in Kohlstrasse.

honors and awards

For his services to local history, Voigt was awarded the Rhineland thaler on May 14, 1979 . The Langerfeld citizens' association awarded him the Golden Coil on May 6, 1981 .
