Gürkan Özkan is a Turkish multi percussionist from Istanbul .

Özkan has been learning percussion with Okay Temiz since 2000 and finished his training with Engin Gürkey in 2004 . With Gürkey in particular, he learned Turkish rhythm and playing on numerous ethnic percussion instruments such as the conga , pandeiro , Iranian Daf and Indian tabla . For years he has been traveling to India regularly to study with his tabla master Sandesh Popatkar.

At the Istanbul International Jazz Festival he performed with John Scofield in 2004 and with Bendik Hofseth in 2005 . He also played on stage with Sezen Aksu , Aşkın Arsunan, Nilüfer , Selim Ergen, Süleyman Ergüner, Birol Topaloğlu, Ensemble Al-Kindî, Smadj and Gültekin Kaan . Özkan is an active member of Engin Gürkey's World Percussion Ensemble , Süleyman Ergüner's Sufizen project and Zahtar . He has also worked on albums by Ayhan Günyıl, Melih Görgün, Gültekin Kaan, Bilal Karaman and the group Light in Babylon .

With Prasad Khaparde, Ibrahim Maalouf , Natascha Atlas and Keyvan Chemirani he performed in 26 different countries in Europe and Asia. He is an endorser for Meinl Percussion . In 2016 he published his first book on the art of tabla playing and held masterclasses. He produces his own tablets under the Bandin brand and sells them worldwide.
