history

Little research has been done into the company's history. It was founded in 1843 by Gustav Hermann Rehfeld. The company developed into a specialty shop for innovations in the paper and stationery industry. From 1896 at the latest, the G. H. Rehfeld & Sohn company also issued its own postcards, initially as lithographs and photochromes , and later as photographs and photo postcards. The main motifs traded were views of Dresden and especially of the painting gallery there, as well as of Saxon Switzerland and the central and eastern Ore Mountains .

The company's founder, Gustav Hermann, was a businessman, master bookbinder and gallantist worker. He had his business premises in 1871 at Rähnitzgasse 10 and in Dresden-Neustadt, Hauptstrasse 19. In 1874 he was also elected as a judge in Dresden. Later he or his son Hermann Rehfeld moved to Hauptstrasse 24, with a branch at König-Johann-Strasse 15 near the Altmarkt .
