Gopaldas Parmanand Sippy

Gopaldas Parmanand Sippy (mostly GP Sippy ; born September 14, 1915 in Hyderabad , † December 25, 2007 in Mumbai ) was an Indian film producer and director.

biography

Sippy was from Sindh Province . He became a lawyer and ran a restaurant in Karachi . After the partition of India , he moved to Bombay . With the film Sazaa he started his career as a film producer in 1951 and founded the production company GP Productions . He produced Amiya Chakraborty's Shahenshah (1953) and Raja Nenes Radha Krishna (1954) , among others . From 1955 Sippy also directed it himself. From his second film Marine Drive (1955) he produced under the company Sippy Films , in which his sons Ramesh and Vijay later also worked.

Since the 1960s he worked exclusively as a producer. His production Brahmachari (1968) earned him a Filmfare Award for best film. With Andaz (1971) began a decade and a half collaboration between Gopaldas Sippy as producer and his son Ramesh Sippy as director. The blockbusters Sholay (1975), Shaan (1980) and Sagar (1985) were created.

Sippy's name also appeared as a producer in the 90s and he was still active in 2000, although the company is now run by his grandson Sascha Sippy.
