G. Ulrich Grossmann

Georg Ulrich Großmann (born November 29, 1953 in Marburg ) is a German art historian . He was general director of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1973, Großmann studied art history, European ethnology and Christian archeology at the University of Würzburg and the University of Marburg at the Philippinum grammar school in Marburg . In 1979 he was in Marburg with a thesis on the palace from 1530 to 1630 in Hesse Dr. phil. PhD. At the Westphalian Open Air Museum Detmold he worked from 1980 to 1986 as an architectural historian. In 1986 he was the founding director of the Weser Renaissance Museum in Lemgo . He worked there until 1994.

From 1994 to the end of June 2019, Großmann was General Director of the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg.

In 1994 he was at the University of Hannover in architecture with a theme to the historic building research habilitation and 1997 at the University of Bamberg in art and architectural history umhabilitiert . At first he was a private lecturer in Bamberg; In 2001 he was appointed adjunct professor there. The focus of his teaching is medieval art history.

Großmann publishes works on historical building research, architecture, painting, book art and graphics, writes art-historical travel guides and works as an editor.

From 1982 to 2006 he was chairman of the international working group for house research, has been the founding chairman of the Wartburg Society for research into castles and palaces since 1992 and has been the deputy chairman of the German Castle Museum since 2005 . Großmann has been a scientific member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 1997 .

Since 2013 he has been president of the Comité International d'Histoire de l'Art (CIHA).
