The Joint Company Health Insurance Fund Cologne ( GBK Cologne ) was a company health insurance fund based in Cologne .
It became known nationwide as one of the first health insurance companies that had to levy an additional contribution for each individual health insurance company . As of July 2009, members were charged an additional fee of EUR 8.00 per month. Since February 20, 2010, 1% of the contributory income has been requested retroactively to January 1, 2010.
The GBK Cologne got into financial difficulties because in 2005 and 2006 alone for two patients with rare diseases, u. a. Hemophilia , cost more than 14 million euros. In 2010, the health insurance company reported a risk of bankruptcy.
The GBK Cologne went through a merger on 1 January 2011 in the mhplus BKK on.
