technology
BMW supplied the engine that also powered the motorcycles of the BMW K 1100 LT series. The water-cooled four-cylinder -Reihenmotor with 1092 cc capacity made 100 horsepower (74 kW) at 7500 min -1 , the torque was 107 Nm at 5500 min -1 indicated. The sidecar was an in-house development by Grüter + Gut , as was the wheel hub steering with a hollow-cast trailing arm that was cushioned with a White Power strut . A second trailing arm guides the wheel carrier in order to keep the caster constant during compression. A compound brakefor the sidecar and rear wheel as well as disc brakes for the front wheel (with anti-lock braking system for motorcycles ) provided the deceleration. The 185/50 × 14 inch (front and sidecar) and 195/50 × 15 inch (rear) tires resulted in a wheelbase of 1650 mm with the modified frame, while the combination had a track width of 1260 mm and a lead of 395 mm reached. The curb weight was 430 kg and the gross vehicle weight was 650 kg. The top speed was 180 km / h.
