GW-Lehr has been a geographic specialist magazine for the didactics of geography and economics that has been published regularly since 1978 .

content

GW-Lehr was founded in 1978 on the initiative of some school practitioners in Vienna. The aim since issue no.1 has been to connect a broad circle of teachers of geography and economics of all types of schools with the then slowly developing GW subject didactics (and its representatives) with this again the only school geography magazine in Austria for a long time . With the sponsor at the time, a Viennese savings bank that was also involved in business education and business training, these preponents succeeded in providing more than 7,000 GW teachers with a free magazine. This played an essential role for the widely accepted paradigm reform of the school subject - manifested with the S I curriculum in 1985. In the years after that, many ideas and suggestions published there also diffused into the newly published school books and the GW teacher training. The printed booklets, in particular, are still a document of a "who's who" of this time of the dawn of the GW specialist didactics in Austria.

GW-Lehr appears quarterly and, in addition to the printed version, has also been published electronically and open access by the publishing house of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2009 . The journal was included in the list of recognized geography journals of the Association of Geographers at German Universities and is registered in the DOAJ . It is published by the Forum GW - Association for Geography and Economic Education . Posts in the categories

  • Specialist science,
  • Subject didactics,
  • Teaching practice,
  • Counterpoint and
  • Service (book review, technical instructions)

are published. Those in the specialist science and specialist didactics categories go through an external, double-blind peer review process. The magazine is committed to the goal of education for sustainable development . Scientific contributions often relate to the Alpine region or the Danube countries and represent a link between didactics and regional geographic research ( Central and Eastern European research , mountain research ).
