Gaël Givet-Viaros (born October 9, 1981 in Arles ) is a former French football player .

Career

Gaël Givet started playing football in Redessan at the age of six . Then he came to the youth team of AC Arles , where he played together with Djibril Cissé in the team. In 1996, at the age of 14, he was accepted into the AS Monaco youth center . For his first appearance in Monaco's league team came the mostly used on the left defense side of the south of France on December 9, 2000 in a 2-2 draw against EA Guingamp . Including the 2005/06 season, Givet played 146 Ligue 1 appearances and scored 7 goals. In the Champions League and UEFA Cup , he made 28 appearances (1 goal).

In the 2005/06 season, Gaël Givet was the captain of Monaco. In June 2007 he moved to Olympique Marseille . There he signed a contract until 2011, but moved in January 2009, initially on loan and then permanently, to the Premier League club Blackburn Rovers . He stayed there for four and a half years and then returned to his home region of France, where Givet played for the second division AC Arles-Avignon in the 2013/14 season .

National team

Gaël Givet has played 12 times in the French national team (as of February 8, 2009) . He was called up for the first time on August 18, 2004, when France played against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Rennes . The game ended 1-1. He has not yet scored a goal in the national team. He was nominated for the French squad for the 2006 World Cup .
