Gabor Dessau

Gabor Dessau (born June 27, 1907 in Perugia , † November 16, 1983 in Pisa ) was an Italian mineralogist .

Gabor Dessau, son of the German physicist Bernardo Dessau and the painter Emma Dessau-Goitein from the extensive family of rabbis and scholars Goitein , studied mining in Pisa and Rome since 1924 and worked for a few years at the Mineralogical Institute of Technology in Rome after receiving his doctorate in 1929 Berlin University of Applied Sciences . 1945 to 1949 he was a technical advisor to UNESCO in Haifa. 1951 to 1955 he was a professor ("professore incaricato") for deposits at the University of Naples , 1957 to 1959 and since 1961 at the University of Pisa . From 1960 to 1962 he was a Research Fellow at Harvard University .

The mineral Dessauit- (Y) was named after him.
